Riedon/Bourns, Current Sense Transducer SSA-2-500A: Calibration?

Riedon products by Bourns, which is to say a portion of Riedon’s former product lineup that is now being manufactured by Bourns, offers a selection of formerly Riedon products that are now manufactured by Bourns. This includes their SSA-2-500A shunt sensor, configured for current sensing up to 500A. We’ve received some questions concerning calibration for this device - does it ship with certs, how often does it need recalibration, and is that time interval also certified?

The answers, in order, are:

  • No.
  • It doesn’t.
  • Not applicable.

Per the product’s datasheet, the device is calibrated by Bourns-Riedon at the factory, and one of the strengths of its non-Hall effect design is no need for periodic recalibration. The device can simply be plugged in and relied upon, without need for constant calibrative maintenance. All one needs is an occasional check to ensure the product has not malfunctioned.
