SMD identification help

Hi everyone,

I need some help identifying this part. I can’t seem to pinpoint where this logo is from. I’m thinking it is a voltage regulator, but any advice which can point me in some sort of direction would be greatly appreciated. The letters next to the logo are ‘GEF’ in case they are not very legible from the picture. Thank you for taking a look!!

Sincerely,
Bennet

Hello,
Welcome to the DigiKey TechForum. I searched the markings and wasn’t able to find any information on the part. Do you have any other information you can provide that may help, a parts list or schematic with a description ?

Hi Steve,

Thank you for taking a look. Unfortunately, I only have the PCB to go off of. I reached out to tech support for the company whose device it is, but they refuse to provide any information about the part! All I want to do it replace the part, but they won’t even provide a part number… I figured the next step would be to ask if someone can identify it based on the markings. Any advice for how to proceed? Maybe you have an idea of how to better approach their tech support?

Sincerely,
Bennet

Hi b.n.meglino,

Looks like it’s the Diodes Incorporated AP2204K-3.0TRG1.

From the datasheet:

I found it by Googling “ic marking “gef” sot23-5” and got lucky.

Unfortunately, it’s obsolete. Fortunately, the AP2205-30W5-7 seems to be a drop-in replacement with slightly improved specs. I don’t see any specs which would preclude it from being placed directly in the same socket using the same external passive components.

Thank you David!! I’ll give this part a try and let you all know how it goes.

Great! Hope that goes well.

Note that if this part died, that there may be a short or some other problem elsewhere on the board which caused failure of this part, so check around the board carefully for other issues.
