ST Microelectronics Eval Board

I am looking for ST Microelectronics Eval, Discovery, or possibly Nucelo board but I need help choosing th right one. I need the most amount of I/O available through headers, I need Bluetooth and WiFi. It would also be great to have maybe a daughter board that provides for LEDs for testing the I/O and a couple of switchs. Can anyone make some recommendations for me?

Thak you,
David

Hello David,

Welcome to the DigiKey TechForum.
The closest matches for a STMicroelectronics Eval board with WiFi and Bluetooth are
497-17066-ND, 497-B-L4S5I-IOT01A-ND, and 497-17067-ND. These are all Discovery boards.
Please check the datasheets to verify compatibility to your application.

That’s a tall order for an ST board. I’ll add the 497-B-U585I-IOT02A-ND and the STM32MP135F-DK to David’s list, but that about it. These are all Discovery boards, which don’t have much for broken out I/O.

FYI: You can find these boards too by downloading and installing ST’s STM32CubeMX software. Once you do, launch it and click the Access To Board Selector option.

Then, you can filter by features you require. In your case, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi:

Your best bet may be to grab a board with BLE only (like the 497-NUCLEO-WB55RG-ND) and grab a WiFi expansion board to connect to it.

If you’re looking for a daughter board that plugs directly into the STM32 board, then this is pretty limiting as you’ll be stuck with the hard-wired I/O that the board designers chose. Most ST boards have Arduino headers, so a prototyping shield like the 1988-1117-ND is an option.

Honestly, though, I would just reach for a standard breadboard, some loose LEDs, switches, resistors, and some prototyping wires. They’re not difficult to set up and they give you maximum flexibility. If you don’t have these, you can buy them individually or get a kit like the 5032-333294-ND.
