STEVAL-PROTEUS1 connecting to ESP32

hello, we are attempting to do condition monitoring on the pumps used in our system. there are hydraulic pumps, feed pumps, pressure pumps used in an RO system.

I used the STEVAL-PROTEUS1with the included battery and the first one bricked and is waiting for Over The Air update.

The second one worked great. It reported the pump temperature and I was able to see the FFT data for the pump.

What I would like to do next is have the data sent via MQTT; temperature data, and more of a real time display of the FFT data. The data will be used in a ML model, but longer trends will be down sampled and stored.

I was planning to use an ESP32 to read the information from the ST board and publish to the MQTT server that’s attached to the same LAN.

I bought a breakout board for the high density plug. What I’m trying to do is get the unit attached to a PC and don’t know what cables/programmer I need.

If there is a better or prepacked device, I’m open to them. At this point, it seems like this will work and our volumes are small (20 or so per year) so this will probably be good enough unless there’s something better.

Hello @triegler,

By “high density plug”, do you mean what the Figure above refers to as the Remote Expansion Connector (J9)? If so, you’re not going to be able to program the board through that connector. You need to use what ST calls in their documentation the STLINK-V3 Adapter Receptacle (J1). The recommended programmer is the STLINK-V3MINIE.

Hard to recommend anything without fully understanding your requirements. From what I’ve gathered in your post, you’re looking for an industrial monitoring solution for vibration and temperature data which can also speak MQTT over WiFi. Not sure we can offer any off-the-shelf products which fit that bill. Of course, we can offer some more suitable development platforms, but probably nothing like the STEVAL-PROTEUS1 which comes in such a deployable form factor.

I can’t find the STDC14 cable; the image looks like I need a cable between the STEVAL and the STLINK. Or can just use jumpers?

The high density expansion item I have is STEVAL-C34ADPTK1. I have a breakout board for the ESP32 as well and am trying to get it working on the bench.

I ordered the STLINK-V3MINI.

The cable is included with the STLINK.
