TE Potter & Brumfield, Relay Part Number T7CV5D-12: What's the Replacement?

TE acquired Potter & Brumfield, a well-known relay company, quite a long time ago. Many older P&B relays, such as T7CV5D-12, have been phased out and obsoleted over time. These relays are still in use in older equipment that needs maintenance, though - if the relays are obsolete, how can you fix your broken machine?

Check out J107F1CS1212VDC.36, from CIT Relay and Switch Distributor | DigiKey. This relay is one our team has confirmed to be similar enough to work in most typical repair applications. We cannot guarantee this, and you should always verify compatibility with your equipment prior to fully trusting a cross, but J107F1CS1212VDC.36 should be a great place to start for most repair needs.

The suggested replacement is not suitable for any applications other than automotive or low voltage DC switching. The P&B T7CV5D-12 has a contact switching voltage rating of 240VAC (10A) while Panasonic’s JJM2W-12V is only rated for 14VDC. You should amend your recommendation, making this fact obvious.

The JJM2W-12V relay can no longer be used as a replacement, as that relay is obsolete. So it is no longer available at DigiKey.
Click here for some options rated for 12A, and some for 15A.
All of these exceed the voltage ratings (AC & DC) of the T7CV5D-12 relay.
Please check the datasheets to verify compatibility to your application.

Thank you for alerting me to this issue, Allan. I have edited the original post with a new recommendation from CIT which hits the voltage marks, in addition to David’s list of options. Hopefully this will help you with future projects.
