Use of a Larger Memory EEPROM in place of a Smaller Memory EEPROM

  1. Can I use a 512K EEPROM in place of a 256K EEPROM without any deleterious repercussions?

Can I use ON Semi PN CAV24C512YE-GT3 in place of ON Semi PN CAV24C256YE−GT3?

AND

Can I use Rohm PN BR24G512FVT-3AGE2 in place of Rohm PN BR24G256FVT-3AGE2?

  1. Does something else in the circuit have to change?

I am only doing this since there isn’t enough of the 256K EEPROMs available for purchase in the marketplace.

Hello @todd.chapman,

Welcome to Digi-Key’s TechForum. You should be able to use a 512K EEPROM in place of a 256K EEPROM without any repercussions. It is just more Memory in the part. So yes, you should also be able to use both of those parts in place of the 256K versions.
