Dear Ibutton users and engineers,
I have purchased i Button temperature loggers (DS1990A) for field work. I have been unable to get the OneWireViewer software to start loggers operating. The software recognises there is a logger present and identifies the logger but the additional tabs that allow you to use the loggers are not present.
Reading the OneWireUser Guide (Maxim Integrated) on page 14 of 37 i found Table 1. “Supported devices”. My loggers do not have a tick as a supported device which explains why the software is not working.
Does anyone out there know how to get the DS1990A to work either using the software I mentioned or by some other means. The situation is time sensitive I wanted to use the loggers tomorrow.
Cheers
David

I will be submitting an inquiry to see if there is a recommendation for a software that is similar to the OneWire but will work for that item.
In the mean time the below link is what I had found.
It would seem that this device may be intended for those using it to build their own application to read / interact with the DS1990A.
That was found from the below link location. Which also has a few other documents talking about 1-wire reading. I would recommend looking these over if you have not yet had a chance.
Thank you for submitting your enquiry. The link you provide is in technical language which I do not fully understand. Hopefully someone can provide a simple solution to this dilemma.
Cheers
David
Hi david.officer,
I think there may be a misunderstanding of what the DS1990A is. That part does nothing but store a unique 64-bit serial number and would be used like a cattle tag for unique identification applications. It does not log temperature data.
The DS1920, 1, 2, 3, 5 series iButton devices do support temperature data logging.
I know that answer has been provided, but here is the information we have received from the supplier.
The DS1990A is an iButton, and as such, the customer would be able to use the OneWireViewer software along with the required 1-Wire drivers to read back from the iButton. The guide to read back from the part can be found here: OneWireViewer and iButton Quick Start Guide | Analog Devices. Please ensure that the customer thoroughly read through and follow the user guide when performing software setup and installation.
The appropriate hardware is also needed, which are the DS9490R USB adapter, along with the DS1402D-DR8 reader. Using a DS9093F or DS9093AB key fob, which is a tool used to insert and remove the iButton from its reader, is highly recommended.
