Why Don't Fans Come With Attached Connectors?

A frequent question we get for any variety of the common DC Brushless Fans we sell here at DigiKey is why almost none of them are sold with a pre-terminated connector already affixed to them. A lot of folks doing repairs to existing equipment search for a fan that has the same connector they already use to simplify their repair and want to know how this can be done, or why the connectors have to be added separately?

These fans aren’t generally sold with pre-terminated connectors because they’re not solely used for consumer electronics. Many of these are purchased by assemblers who incorporate them into other devices, which require their own termination methods. However, you can often use simple tools to terminate these fans as you need for your repair yourself. For information on which connectors you might need, you can check out Common Fan Connectors.

We do carry a number of fans with connectors already attached that can be found here:

They can be filtered further by selecting the type of connector in the Termination filter (seen below), however you will need to consult each datasheet for the dimensions and other information on the connector to ensure it will work for your application.
