Hello DigiKey, and Happy New Year – I am trying to find a plug that will fit into a jack (on a set of old speakers) that I measured (with a caliper) to have inner/outer diameters of 1.1/3.8. The ultimate goal is to power these speakers with a source of DC power – for example, a portable battery with a USB port. In this case we would want to either find a barrel plug –> male USB adapter, or we could fabricate our own adapter if we had at least a plug –> wire leads.
I cannot seem to find a plug with those dimensions on Digikey. For the Adafruit adapter that lists this ID/OD pair, those dimensions appear to apply to the jack end, not the plug. Questions:
- Is there a relevant product that I am missing?
- Is a plug with a 3.5 OD likely to fit sufficiently well? There seem to be more options there.
- If the answer is no to 1-2: Are there any other good solutions that come to mind?

You have not specified what type of USB port you have, but I’ll assume it is an “A” type.
That sized jack is a little fuzzy in terms of the standard size it would fit, but 1.35mm ID / 3.5mm OD is a common size, so that’s probably what you have there. The spring metal inside of the jacks/plugs have a fair amount of tolerance which will still make reasonable contact, so they fit a wider range than what one might assume.
We do carry some “between series adapter cables” which have USB-A male plug on one end and the 1.35mm ID / 3.5mm OD barrel plug on the other here.
