Proper use of adhesives during the assembly of the 2300LL series toroid inductors from Bourns plays an important role in ensuring consistent performance and long-term reliability. Recently, we’ve received questions regarding the use of a black JP Weld adhesive in this process. The manufacturer has reviewed these inquiries and provided the following clarifications.

Is it possible to increase the volume of adhesive applied?
Bourns is willing to run tests to determine if increasing the volume of adhesive is feasible. They requested technical guidelines or parameters from the customer to assist in this process. This could potentially be a TNA (Test and Analysis) project. -
What is the purpose of this adhesive application?
The black adhesive is used primarily to hold the lead wires in place. This ensures that the wires remain fixed during the assembly and operation of the inductor. -
What controls are currently in place to ensure the correct volume of adhesive is applied?
The amount of adhesive dispensed is controlled by air pressure and the type of needle tooling used to ensure fixation. -
This adhesive application is not documented in the datasheet. Is it considered an additional process?
The adhesive application is considered a secondary, non-critical material.
