Step-by-Step Assembly
1) Choose the correct contact and housing
Ensure you’re using the correct size contacts for the wire gauge you plan on using (e.g., 45A contacts for 10AWG wire).
In this example, the parts used are

Tech Tip - If using 10AWG wire, use a high strand count for maximum wire flexibility. Also, choose the appropriate housing color for the project (typically red for positive and black for negative.
2) Strip the Wire
With the appropriate wire stripper, remove enough insulation from the end of the wire so that the exposed wire can be fully inserted into the barrel of the crimp contact stopping at the wire end stop inside the contact.
Tech Tip: Do not damage or cut the copper strands during the stripping process, as this will affect the contact’s electrical performance.
3) Crimp the contact onto the wire
Insert the stripped wire into the back of the contact barrel and make sure all the copper strands go inside the barrel.
Using the crimp tool designed for the Anderson contacts to crimp the contact onto the wire. Ensure that the crimp is tight and that there is no loose wire or incomplete connection. Look at the crimp guide for reference to the correct crimp specification here.
Tech Tip: There is an iron law that tells us to match wire, contact, and crimp tool. This is necessary from a performance as well as a regulatory/liability perspective. From a performance perspective, we need a robust low resistance connection that will pass the pull test. Specifically, the wire should fail before the crimp. From a liability perspective, we recommend you follow the manufacturer’s direction. In this example, the recommended crimp tool is the 1309G3. A soldered joint can be used but only for “closed barrel” contacts according to datasheet link.
4) Insert the contact into the housing
After the wire is crimped to the contact, insert the contact into the back of the Anderson connector housing. The contact will slide into the back of the connector and lock into place with a noticeable click.

5) Test the connection
Once the contact is inserted and locked into the housing, gently tug on the wire to ensure the contact is properly seated and secure.
If needed, plug the connector into a matching Anderson connector to verify that both sides mate.
