Application Specific Microcontrollers

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Application Specific Microcontrollers category on DigiKey.com

Application-specific microcontrollers are semiconductor devices that incorporate a processing unit (microprocessor), memory (EEPROM, EPROM, flash, SRAM, ROM, RAM, etc.), and some peripherals (clocks, converters, ports, timers, UARTS, etc.) into a single device. Applications include audio recorder/playback, authentication, automotive, battery monitor, BLDC controller, Bluetooth, embedded security, GPS, networking, and USB to name a few.

SelectionCharacteristics

DigiKey Programmable: For verified products, DigiKey can program/flash your compiled code or configuration variables prior to shipping. For unverified products, please inquire with ProgCent.Techs@digikey.com.

Applications: Application is the type of equipment or environment the device will be used in, they are tested and typically rated by a third party to ensure certain minimum standards for the application they are intended for. You could use one with a higher rating, but you cannot use one with a lower rating as it will fail in that application. For example, you could use a medically rated device to replace a commercial device, but you cannot replace the medical device with a commercial device.

Core Processor: Identifies the microprocessor or processor technology that serves as the primary computational engine for a board or device.

Program Memory Type: Indicates the non-volatile memory technology that is used for program storage and the capacity of that memory.

Controller Series: Describes which CPU core(s) that are being used in the deivce.

RAM Size: Indicates the amount of Random Access Memory with which a device is equipped.

Interface: The way the device is equipped to communicate it’s data.

Number of I/O: Indicates the number of device pins that are capable of being used for general-purpose digital input/output functions.

Voltage - Supply: Typically represented by a range, this indicates the low and high voltage limits that one can expect in standard operation. Voltages outside this range may damage the device and other system components.

Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and/or other system components.

Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.

Package / Case: Describes the footprint and type of body the item has based on a general standard.

Supplier Device Package: Describes the footprint and type of body the item has based on what the manufacturer names it.
