We are using BeagleBone Black (AM3358 ARM processor) for our product design. I am wondering the Processor Chip, or Octavo Systems OSD3358 SiP are shipped with any preloaded firmware? Is there any service that we can request to load a prebuilt image?
Hi @dzhou, all OSD3358 are shipped in a factory default configuration. The “osd335x-c-sip” has a optional-sized built-in eMMC. I would contact Octavo directly for clarification if they offer any factory programming options of the OSD335x-C models.
I have contacted Octavo through their web site. But no reply yet. That was the reason I posted here. As you pointed out there is buil-tin eMMC for the OSD SiP. But don’t know they offer a preloaded image. With preloaded image, to flash our customized image will be easier.
Also I have read somewhere that there is an EEPROM, it shall be programmed, other wise BeagleBone Black won’t boot, because it looks the ID or board revision, etc. for booting.
Hi @dzhou, the OSD335x’s eeprom is blank from the factory. It’s pretty easy to build up a version of u-boot that ignores the “blank” eeprom and programs your own custom string.
The OSD335x doesn’t have to be a BeagleBone Black, that’s just one of many options for the SIP.
