This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the ARINC category on DigiKey.com
ARINC (Aeronautical Radio, Incorporated) backplane connectors are used in high reliability applications in the aviation, airport, defense, government, healthcare, network, security, and transportation industries. ARINC developed the standards for the trays and boxes used to hold standard line-replaceable units (like radios) in aircraft, allowing electronics to be rapidly replaced without complex fasteners or test equipment. The backplane connectors are selected by their features, shell style and size, class code, and cavity type (A-F). Cavity type may include open, A524, 13W2, 57, 100, and 150.
SelectionCharacteristics
Shell Style: Indicates if a shell is a designed to protrude from a mounting surface (plug) or accommodate such a protrusion on a mating connector (socket).
Class: Indicates the environmental tolerance component of the ARINC class designation.
Shell Size: A standardized designation relating to connector size; larger numbers correlate to a larger connector.
Cavity A: Callout indicating number of signal contacts present in the indicated location (cavity) of the connector.
Cavity B: Callout indicating number of signal contacts present in the indicated location (cavity) of the connector.
Cavity C: Callout indicating number of signal contacts present in the indicated location (cavity) of the connector.
Cavity D: Callout indicating number of signal contacts present in the indicated location (cavity) of the connector.
Cavity E: Callout indicating number of signal contacts present in the indicated location (cavity) of the connector.
Cavity F: Callout indicating number of signal contacts present in the indicated location (cavity) of the connector.
Sealed: Indicates if the item is sealed.
Shell Plating: Indicates the type of material used in the plating of the shell.
