Clock Generators, PLLs, Frequency Synthesizers

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Clock Generators, PLLs, Frequency Synthesizers category on DigiKey.com

Clock generators, PLLs, and frequency synthesizer integrated circuits (ICs) provide a steady timing pulse from a reference signal for logic devices such as computers, microcontrollers, data communication systems, and graphic/video generators. These integrated circuits may include buffers, drivers, dividers, multipliers, multiplexers, synthesizers, fanout distributors, and prescalers.

SelectionCharacteristics

DigiKey Programmable: For verified products, DigiKey can program/flash your compiled code or configuration variables prior to shipping. For unverified products, please inquire with ProgCent.Techs@digikey.com

Type: Describes main function or usage of the circuit.

PLL: Indicates whether or not a device incorporates a phase-locked loop function.

Input: Enumerates the supported formats for clock/timing signals input to a device.

Output: Indicates the type of electrical signal the device provides, such as CMOS, differential, or TTL.

Number of Circuits: Indicates the number of circuits of similar function that are implemented within the device.

Ratio - Input:Output: Indicates the number of signal inputs and outputs present in each functional circuit within a device.

Differential - Input:Output: Indicates if the clock signal inputs/outputs of a device employ or allow use of a differential signalling scheme.

Frequency - Max: Describes a device’s maximum operating frequency; the max rate at which an input power source is switched in the course of the conversion process.

Divider/Multiplier: Indicates presence of a divider or multiplier function on the device.

Voltage - Supply: Typically represented by a range, this indicates the low and high voltage limits which one can expect standard operation. Voltages outside this range may damage the device and other system components.

Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.

Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.

Package / Case: Indicates the type of protective case used on an electronic component to allow easy handling, installation, and protection. This selection was determined to be the closest industry standard applicable to the suppliers device packaging. Typically it is best to check the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than depend on this terminology when designing your circuit.

Supplier Device Package: This is what the manufacturer calls the package of this device. They are manufacturer specific. It is typically best to use the actual dimensions from the datasheets rather than to go by this terminology when designing your circuit.
