The Packaging

I found the packaging to be very sturdy and protective of the printer inside. If you are like me it always makes me feel better knowing that even though it would have taken some kind of jolt or jog and along the way, the packaging was more than suitable to do the job.

What was in the box?

The Assembly

I have put together a few 3D printers and this one was by far the easiest. They didn’t even have to supply snacks for any breaks along the way. It can really be reduced to these steps.

  • Attach the gantry frame to the base component
  • Attach the display screen to the base component
  • Material rack and filament detection assemblies to the gantry frame
  • Attach the filament tube to the Material rack assembly
  • Connect all wires
  • Complete any cable management.

I found it to be quick and easy. It was up and running in no time.

Calibration

I have to admit I did feel a little skeptical about its ability to calibrate everything itself. I also have to admit that it did a really good job. Getting through the setup was easy and then it was time to print.

Printing the Included Model

A flash drive was provided that contained one print file. A 15 minute Benchy. The images below show those results. While it is true that I have seen better prints and there are certainly some things that bother me, What I can’t say is that I have seen those printed this quickly. So far I was impressed, especially for a printer at this low of a price point. It is also important to remember that this is out of the box. I had not made any adjustments or changes to the gcode.

This wraps up the initial set up and first print. I was left smiling and was excited to take the next steps. You couldn’t ask for an easier set up for instant results. If you are the type of person that will be downloading files from Creality Cloud and printing them directly without any desire to change settings, this printer takes a lot of the confusing bits out. It could be a good choice. With that said, here is a little foreshadowing. I was a little less happy when it came to setting up the software and running the official slicer for custom prints with custom settings. I will be addressing this in a future post.
