Flex cable insertion depth

Molex 39-53-2255 FPC connector - When a flex cable is fully inserted how far is the bottom edge of that cable from the bottom surface of the connector (PCB surface)?
Not evident in the spec sheet.

Hello jaspit

From what I am seeing in the drawing, it shows the gap between the bottom of the cable and the top of the PCB board would be 7.5 mm when the cover is engaged.

Are you sure? The cable itself is not pictured. Therefore It’s an assumption that the 7.5 dimension line is the end of the cable. That dimension line extends to nothing as pictured. This is a critical dimension.

I think the pins of the connector are on the bottom as picture on the left. The cable inserts from the top. Therefore the end of the cable winds up 7.5 - 5.3 from the PCB surface if that line at the lower end of the 5.3 dimension represents the end of the cable?

7.5 - 5.3 = 2.2mm. The end of the cable winds up 2.2mm from the surface of the PCB.

Hello @jaspit,

Thank you for posting to DigiKey’s TechForum.

You’re absolutely right. The cable isn’t shown directly, but based on the drawing, the 5.3 mm line likely represents the top of the inserted cable. That would place the bottom edge about 2.2 mm above the PCB, as you calculated.

Thanks for pointing that out and breaking it down so clearly.
