This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Float, Level Sensors - Industrial category on DigiKey.com
Industrial Float Sensors or Level Sensors are used to measure or detect a fluid or material level within a container, commonly through the use of a buoyant element containing or connected to a switch of some type, but in other cases through the use of ultrasonic, optical, or other techniques. Outputs produced by these devices may be variable to allow a quantitative measurement of fluid/material level, or a simple binary indication of whether or not the level is in excess of some fixed value. These are made for use in an industrial setting.
SelectionCharacteristics
Specifications to determine which industrial float sensor is right for your application.
Type: What the float sensor is designed for, such as liquid or powder.
Output Type: The type of output of the device, such as analog or switch.
Output Configuration: The type of switch or analog signal at the output of the device, such as SPDT switch or 4-20mA, etc.
Current: Typically this represents the maximum current to which a device will meet its given specifications. Exceeding this current may damage the device and/or other system components.
Minimum Liquid Specific Gravity: The minimum density of a monitored liquid required for proper sensor function, compared to water at 4°C.
Switch Actuation Level: For float-type sensors, characterizes the amount of float motion required to actuate the switch.
Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.
Material - Housing and Prism: The type of material the housing and prism parts of the float sensor are made of.
Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.
Voltage Rating: Typically represented by a range, this indicates the low and high voltage limits which one can expect standard operation. Voltages outside this range may damage the device and other system components.
