Many connectors are available for the LAPP Ethernet cables. One of the best ways to match cables and connectors is to consult the tables in LAPP’s Industrial Communication Catalog.

Example Connector Selection
As an example, consider the LAPP type 2170464 PVC jacketed Ethernet cable shown in Figure 1. There are 11 unique connectors as well as a cable to cable coupler as shown in Table 1.
At the time of this writing, there appears to be a preference for the T568B standard. This is based on comparison of the LAPP 21700600 and 21700601. There is a slight cost advantage for the 21700601 (T568B) and twice the available stock at DigiKey.
| Connector | Configuration | T568A | T568B |
|---|---|---|---|
| RJ45 plug | Straight, latched | 21700600 | 21700601 |
| RJ45 plug | Straight, cable gland | 21700652 | 21700653 |
| RJ45 plug | Angled, cable gland | 21700636 | 21700637 |
| RJ45 socket | Straight | 21700611 | 21700612 |
| M12 X-coded connector | LAPP part number |
|---|---|
| Straight male plug | 21700602 |
| Straight female socket | 21700621 |
| Female socket, wall mounting/flange | 21700622 |
In addition a type 21700623 coupler is available to join the ends of two cables.

Tech Tip: Recall that T568A and T568B differ in their wire color to pin mapping. The distinction matters little for a straight RJ45 to RJ45 cable provided both ends are wired the same. However, pay attention when constructing an RJ45 to M12 X-coded cable (Figure 2). Incorrect assumptions with regards to the A vs B color code may results in a swap of the orange and green pairs. Either A or B RJ45 connectors may be used provided the assembler is aware of the problem.

Locating Connectors from the Catalog Tables
The data for Table 1 were collated from tables in the LAPP catalog. Figures 3 and 4 show the larger matrix used to select connectors for the 2170464 cable. Note that the images occur across a page break. The 2170464 cable is the last row in each image.
