I have purchased IDC connectors several times from DigiKey. Each time I expected to get a specific AWG range and a particular contact pressure. Instead, I get a random mixture of different AWGs and pressures. According to TE Connectivity’s Application Note 114-25032 page 2, the different AWGs connector pressures are indicated by a stamped identification number ranging from 1-5. In a recent order, I ordered several pieces of DigiKey part number A25791-ND (10 position IDC 26-30 AWG). That piece should correspond to a number 1 stamped on the connector. Instead I received a random assortment of all five different numbers. This reflects my experience every time I’ve ordered these connectors. What gives? Am I misunderstanding?
Thanks,
J
Can you share of photo of the stamped markings showing the housing and the contacts? The number referring to the AWG should only be taken from the contact stamping.
I have also removed your P.O. as this is a public forum.
Hello Steven,
Thank you for your reply! It explained the problem immediately. I have been looking at a number stamped on the connector housing. I did not notice the number on the connectors, which are what they should be.
