[Requirements]
For items 1 and 2, the connector shell must be made of stainless steel.
They must support 1Gbps data transmission and have a minimum IP67 rating.
[Questions]
Does the presence of a “T” or “S” in the part number indicate that the connector is made of stainless steel?
Regarding the M12 coding:
Does “X-coding” indicate support for up to 10Gbps Ethernet?
Does “D-coding” indicate support for up to 1Gbps?
For plug-type (male) connectors mated with panel-mount (female) connectors, how is sealing and waterproofing achieved at the cable entry point?
Is a sealing element (e.g., O-ring or grommet) included or required separately?
When mating compatible NorComp connectors (e.g., #1 with #2), does the IP67 rating remain valid as long as they are properly connected?
Does the plug (male) connector ensure waterproof performance when terminated with the specified cables below?
Could you please confirm whether these cables are compatible in terms of sealing and maintaining the IP67 rating when used with the respective plug connectors?
Thank you in advance for your support and clarification.
For your questions I did some research and found these answers.
1. Does “T” or “S” in the part number denote stainless steel shells?
Yes—within NorComp’s M12 nomenclature, T is the indicator in the 858 series and S is the indicator in the 859 series. This is for the series VULCON Steel.
Sealing is achieved via each connector’s cable gland assembly with built-in O-ring** (typically EPDM) in **stainless steel series.
In VULCON Stainless Steel series, shells include built-in O-rings and EPDM seals as part of the connector kit.
4. Does IP67 remain valid when mating #1 with #2?
Yes—mating a correctly paired stainless-steel plug (#1) with panel-mount (#2) maintains the IP67 rating, assuming both originally rated IP67, seals are intact, and connections are properly torqued.
5. Plug’s waterproof performance when terminated on the cables listed:
NorComp’s stainless VULCON M12 connectors support IP67 in unmated conditions if assembled correctly with appropriate cable diameter.
LAPP 2170297 (8‑pin, 6.3 mm) and LAPP 1308802 (4‑pin, 5.7 mm) should fit—NorComp’s cable mount connectors accommodate diameters in the 5–7 mm range
Once the gland is tightened (compressing the O‑ring), sealing is achieved. Ensure the shrink boot or back shell properly clamps to the cable jacket right outside the O‑ring zone.
Thank you very much, Jeff, for your detailed and thoughtful response.
Your explanation really helped clarify things for me. I appreciate you taking the time to share your expertise.
Thanks again!
