Hi… I need to replace a red diode thats gone dim, ideally with a little more power.
I’m hoping to upgrade all the diodes in 4 lasers.
So the original red is 650nm 200mW… the smaller of the three in the picture.
Looking at: VLM-650-21-LPA
Am I on the right track?! TY
Greetings,
The indicated optical output for the device mentioned is 2mW per the datasheet, so probably not what you’d want to replace a 200mW device.
I’m not seeing that we have any listings for 650nm devices at that power level to offer though, so I’ve no suggestions to offer. It’s getting into a territory where regulatory bodies start taking an interest however, so the options may be somewhat more limited compared to devices suitable for amusing the cat.
Hello chris7,
Welcome to the DigiKey TechForum.
Looking at VLM-650-21-LPA, the power rating is 0.3~0.7mW, so it would be less than 1mW.
So this will have a lot lower in power, that the 200mW one you currently have.
The highest power rating for 650nm, is VLM-650-41LPT30(900)-ND, which is 20mW. Still far less than your 200mW.
Thank you both for your replies … I thought I was looking at a 200mW diode, missed some zeros!
I bought a 250mW red from eBay and it arrived defective, was refunded. The search continues.
