LED Bin Requests

Dear, we need to order n. 85K pcs of led in subject.

Is it possible to know the exact BIN that you have in stock?

It’s important for us that all 85K pcs have the same BIN

Could you please share the part number, as it wasn’t mentioned in the subject?

DigiKey is not able to support requests for specific LED bin codes or requests for information regarding bin codes currently in stock.

To appreciate why, consider P/N 160-1448-1-ND as an example. Page 5 of the datasheet shows that the bin code is made up of two options for forward voltage, four options for luminous intensity, and 5 options for hue, resulting in 2x4x5= 40 different possible bin codes. If each is equally likely, then any given bin represents only 2.5% of the total production.

To fulfill a request for 85K pieces with the same bin code would require carrying approximately 3.4M pieces in stock in that case. If the other ~9000 normally stocked products in the family were binned similarly and stocked at the same level at a cost of $0.01 each, this would represent carrying roughly $300M of inventory for that product family alone. This is not economically feasible.

Bin code information is provided as a courtesy to help users cope with production variability, for example by adjusting a series resistor value depending on the Vf and luminosity ranks of a received reel to achieve uniformity of brightness. While some manufacturers may support multiple ordering codes for certain high-volume products to specify selected sub-groups of bin codes, the general case is that requests for specific bins or large volumes of the same bin cannot be honored.
