Molex Mini-Fit Jr. Part Number Confusion, Two look the same

------Question for 0039000079 Please Put your question below------

Hi there,

I am having trouble identifying the mechanical/practical difference between the Molex Mini-Fit Jr. Part No. 0039000079 and Part No. 0039000213.

One has some stamping on the barrel, but they are otherwise identical, the sizes appear to be exactly the same, at least by my eye. I cannot tell if I’ve got the right product or not, as the finish of the tin plating appears the same as well. One is simply rated for 16 AWG and the other 18-24 AWG.

It would be very appreciated if anyone who is familiar with these could help me out here. I’m crimping my own 24 pin cable here for my motherboard home network project. Thank you! :smiling_face:

Ooh, to elaborate, I have them sitting in front of me, got them from DigiKey after I made the mistake of getting gold plated connectors from a different vendor and finding out I shouldn’t mix the plating I decided to get the real deal and with the correct tin plating. Using the real molex tools too. :slight_smile:

Hello Wifikebab,
Thank you for posting on our TechForum.
I would recommend using part number 0039000213 because it is rated for 24 awg, part number 0039000079 is only rated for 16 awg.

@Nathan_Henneman Hi Nathan,

Well, I’ll be sure to use the correct gauge wire in each connector, as the 24 pin cables use 16-24, however, physically, minus some stamped letters they appear physically identical so I am unsure if I was sent the right product or not. I would have assumed they would be physically different in some way, longer flaps or something, but it appears not to be the case.
