Need help installing TE conn tab into connector

Hello,

These are TE AMP parts. I am trying to insert conn tab 17-1718348-1CT-ND into connector 17-1-1703498-1-ND. When I insert the tab, it barely goes into the connector even when I apply much force. I can never get the tab to fully enter or lock into the connector. I notice a purple locking piece down in the connector. Even when I push it to the right, the tab still won’t go in. Should I be removing the purple piece somehow? Do I have the wrong tabs?

I checked the MFG page for 1-1703498-1 and I did not see 1718348-1 as an associated contact. I have linked the associated contacts listed below:

Thank you for the help. I ordered a new connector and contact A142442CT-ND. The two went together properly, but now I can’t get them apart. Do I need to remove the purple piece that I assume is the lock to get the contact out? I previously assumed bending it to the right would release, as there is space for the purple piece to move right in that connector. If it must be removed, is there a specialty tool I should use?

Please read this Application Specification document for information on assembly and disassembly of connector.

We carry the 1-1579028-5 “switching tool” shown on page 12 for engaging and disengaging the locking mechanism.

It looks like they have a new tool option for this as well, with part number 9-1579028-2, but at the time of this writing, it is a non-stocking part for us.
