Nidec Copal PG-35H Pressure Gauges Q&A

The PG-35H pressure gauges from Nidec Copal is intended for high pressure applications and designed for compatibility with corrosive gases and liquids. We’ve collected a few commonly asked questions concerning this product and its application here, for your reference.

Q: Can the solenoid value be controlled solely by the SW output?
A: Yes. It is possible to control a solenoid using the SW output; however, additional circuitry is required to protect against surge current.

Q: If the solenoid does not work, what should I be aware of when troubleshooting my circuit?
A: Generally these devices can handle small wattage solenoids (1W @ 24V), but a back voltage protection diode is recommended. Below you can see a diagram for the typical circuit connection for connecting with a small size relay or a solenoid. Please see the Common Notes for more information, specifically pages 11 and 22.

Q: There are eight values one can select between in Switch Output Setting. Any examples to show the difference between these value settings?
A: The differences can be seen on page 5 of Instruction Manual. The user can set the switch output to function as either [separate mode] or [window comparator mode].

The [separate mode] output is similar to a standard switch output whereby if the input pressure is above a certain threshold pressure, the switch turns ON or OFF depending on whether you want the switch to be normally ON or normally OFF when the input pressure is below the threshold pressure.

The [window comparator mode] instead restricts the switch output to change ON or OFF within a certain range:

Minimum Pressure threshold < Input pressure < Maximum pressure threshold
