OPLB1BNNC1NA – singlemode or multimode?

Hi!
I’m currently looking at this LC adapter (OPLB1BNNC1NA), but the operating mode isn’t specified.
Could you please confirm if the OPLB1BNNC1NA adapter is intended for singlemode or multimode applications?

@RobertCNelson,

Any ideas on this one?

Here is what I found so far:

My impression is that intent is signaled by color of the body e.g., blue single-mode and beige multi-mode. Unfortunately, I am unable to confirm this suspicion for this product.

Cordially,

Aaron

Hello Yujilp,

To add to APDahlen, you can also reference this drawing and page 20 of this catalog.
The drawing mentions in the title it is for APC, PC, and MM ports while referencing Beige, Green, and Blue with part numbers for the drawing. According to the catalog Green would be APC, Blue would be PC, and Beige would to MM.
While they do not explicitly state it, it would seem to imply that blue is single-mode.

In general LC adapters can support both single-mode and multi-mode cables. As they just provide structure for the fiber cable to line up and connect both ends of the fiber.

This really comes down to what fiber is the customer using?

Multi-mode is generally 5-6 times thicker then single-mode cables.

Side note, if they followed fiber color standard, Beige is the standard color for multi-mode fiber optic adapters.

Thank you for posting to all of you. This was a very interesting read. I’ve been in the fiber industry most of my adult life and I didn’t know some of the things I read in the links.

A couple examples would be the 24 pairs of fiber color code. I’ve only seen up to 12 different colors used when splicing fiber for internet providers. In this method when all 12 colors are used it starts another binder group inside the second buffer tube and so on. When all 12 colors are used in the binders it creates a super binder. So, a 288 fiber would have a blue and an orange super binder, with 12 binders inside of them and 12 fibers inside each binder.

Another example would be the beige connector. I’ve seen them but didn’t know they were multi-mode specific. I’ve only used the blue and green with multiple different connectors used. Mostly the PC and APC.

Thanks again,
