Optical Sensors - Photointerrupters - Slot Type - Transistor Output

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Optical Sensors - Photointerrupters - Slot Type - Transistor Output category on DigiKey.com

Slot type photointerrupters with transistor output are optical sensor modules that utilize a built-in infrared light source and a photodiode separated by an air gap (slot). When an actuator, liquid or other detection object blocks the light source, an output transistor is turned on or off which toggles the applied voltage. Mounting options include chassis, snap-in, surface, free-hanging, and through-hole.

SelectionCharacteristics

Specifications to determine which slot type photointerrupter with transistor output is right for your application.

Sensing Distance: The distance within which the sensor can receive an input and produce a valid output.

Sensing Method: Describes the manner in which a sensor interacts with a sensed object or surface.

Output Configuration: How the output of the sensor is electrically configured, such as analog, open collector, phototransistor, etc.

Current – DC Forward (If) (Max): This represents the maximum DC current to which a device will meet its given specifications. Exceeding this current may damage the device and/or other system components.

Current – Collector (Ic) (Max): This represents the maximum collector current to which a device will meet its given specifications. Exceeding this current may damage the device and/or other system components.

Voltage – Collector Emitter Breakdown (Max): The maximum voltage between the collector and emitter of the transistor to which a device will meet its given specifications. Exceeding this voltage may damage the device and /or other system components.

Response Time: The amount of time it takes for the sensor to respond to a change in input.

Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.

Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.

Package/Case: Indicates the type of protective case used on an electronic component to allow easy handling, installation, and protection. This selection was determined to be the closest industry standard applicable to the suppliers device packaging. Typically it is best to check the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than depend on this terminology when designing your circuit.
