Regarding soldering the pSemi PE4140, is soldering required at the red-circled area in the attached image? Also, what is the function of this electrode?

I did some looking into this and the solder pads on the side do not need to be soldered. From what I read they have no electrical value .

We were unable to confirm the role of these pads in the datasheet. Is the exposed solder pad at the center of the back surface sufficient for heat dissipation, RF grounding, and mechanical fixation? If necessary, please get in touch with the manufacturer.
The center pad underneath does that stuff. The ones on the sides if soldered can cause unwanted grounding, stress cracking or other issues.
