Seeking wire for audio cables

Hi all,

I’m looking for a four-core wire in two separable, shielded pairs, suitable for making stereo 3.5 mm jack to dual mono 1/4 in jack cables such as the one pictured. Can anyone suggest a product? Many thanks in advance for your help.

You need two separately shielded pairs, not one common shield. Otherwise L/R crosstalk on longer runs gets bad.

On DigiKey look under Multi-Conductor Cable, 4 conductors, “individually shielded pairs” / dual pair. Belden and Alpha usually have that style. Filter by AWG and outer diameter so it fits your connector boots.

If you write preferred AWG and max OD, easier to point exact PN.

Thanks for the reply @sfzorin ! I found this https://www.digikey.fr/en/products/detail/belden-inc/9451D-A5QU1000/8810689 under 4 (2 pair), but it has six conductors (also it’s not in stock). I can’t find anything with two insulated conductors each with a shield, like the cable pictured above. Ideal outer diameter is 6-7 mm.

Something like this is what I’m looking for https://www.altronics.com.au/product/w3022-figure-8-audio-shielded-cable

Hi thomas.rushton,

I could not find any 2-conductor individually shielded cables, but I did find the following 2-pair cable with each pair shielded:

  • BEL1415-100-ND 4 (2 Pair Twisted) Conductor Multi-Pair Cable Chrome 24 AWG Foil 100.0’ (30.5m)

I did find some cable assemblies in our Marketplace which already have the connectors you specify attached. However, they appear to not be available globally, but rather only in specific markets.

Thanks very much for your reply, @David_1528. I need long cables and those assemblies are too short I’m afraid. I decided to go with coax and use heat shrink to join the two pairs where they meet at the 3.5 mm jack.

That seems a reasonable alternative. Good luck to you!
