If you are experiencing any issues with the 2328702-4 connector from TE Connectivity related to soldering performance or pick-and-place handling during surface mount assembly, we have collected detailed clarifications and recommendations provided by the manufacturer, below.
1. Black Clips Lifted During Reel Packaging
Issue: The black clip of the connector is lifted up in the tape carrier, which blocks nozzle pick and place during automated assembly and causing the part to be skewed when placed on the PCB.
Cause: The structural characteristics of the product (the lid can be lifted vertically)
Recommendation:
- If SMT pick-and-place accuracy is not sufficient, we recommend the customer use a smaller suction nozzle for pick up (nozzle shapes are available in both square and round).
- Increase the pad or stencil size. When the component is slightly off-center, the tension on the surface of the solder dot can pull the product over and correct it during high-temperature solder melting.
2. Heat Resistance of the Black Buckle During Soldering
Issue: During manual soldering, the temperature of the hot air gun reaches 260°C, causing the black buckle to melt.
Cause: This is also due to the product’s structural characteristics. This Plastic latch may not withstand direct exposure to hot air, particularly from the top. The hot air gun’s temperature (typically 300–400°C) can easily cause melting.
Repair Recommendations:
- Method 1: After closing the lid, apply high-temperature adhesive to the product to protect it, then heat it with hot air.
- Method 2: Heat the PCBA from the back with hot air (the heating surface also needs to be coated with high-temperature adhesive), which will not blow the product and cause melting. When the solder joints are melted, the product can be removed.
- Method 3: Use a BGA dedicated heating platform for controlled rework to avoid overheating and melting the plastic components.
