How to assemble this connector and ribbon cable correctly? Where should the force from the contacts side be applied - to the connector body or directly to the contacts? Is there any special device required for this?
Hi @serg.malkin ,
Welcome to our TechForum.
Where to Apply Force
- Apply force to the connector body, not directly to the contacts.
- The contacts are delicate and designed to pierce the insulation of the ribbon cable when compressed. Applying force directly to them can bend or damage them.
- Use a flat press surface or a dedicated tool to ensure even pressure across the connector.
Recommended Tooling
Molex specifies several tools for proper assembly:
- PremiumGrade Hand Crimp Tool
- Part Number: 690081090
- Suitable for 4–26 circuits, 28–26 AWG ribbon cable
- Ensures consistent and reliable termination
- Arbor Press Fixture
- Part Number: 690201902
- For manual press operations with higher precision
- Semi-Automatic Bench Press PB14
- Part Number: 691271001
- For production environments with auto de-reeling options
Assembly Tips
- Align the ribbon cable precisely with the connector slots.
- Ensure the cable is flat and not twisted.
- Use the press tool to close the connector evenly and fully.
- Inspect the termination visually to confirm all contacts have pierced the insulation.
