This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Translators, Level Shifters category on DigiKey.com
Logic translator or level shifter ICs are devices used to pass information between digital logic devices that are operating from different/incompatible supply voltages, or which implement different signaling methods. Examples might include the connection of a digital-output sensor requiring a 5 V supply to an FPGA with a 3.3 V I/O supply, or converting between single-ended signaling methods like CMOS or TTL and differential techniques, such as PECL or LVDS.
SelectionCharacteristics
Translator Type: Indicates the nature of translation performed by a device, such as voltage level or logic interface standard.
Channel Type: Indicates if a device’s construction allows information to pass through a given device channel in one or both directions.
Number of Circuits: Indicates the number of circuits of similar functions that are implemented within the device.
Channels per Circuit: The number of signal paths (channels) supported by each signal sub-group (circuit) within a device.
Voltage - VCCA: For devices that perform logic level translation, the supply voltage range associated with the lower of the two voltage levels is accommodated.
Voltage - VCCB: For devices that perform logic level translation, the supply voltage range associated with the higher of the two voltage levels is accommodated.
Input Signal: Enumerates the logic signalling format(s) that a device can accept as inputs.
Output Signal: Characterizes the electrical format of a device’s signal outputs.
Output Type: Indicates the type of electrical signal the device provides, such as complimentary, differential, or inverted.
Data Rate: Characterizes the maximum rate at which information can be transmitted or received by a device. Does not necessarily refer to the throughput rate for user data, see device datasheets for further information.
Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.
Features: These are different capabilities or properties of the device such as bypass circuit, over voltage protection, or universal flash storage.
Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.
Package / Case: Indicates the type of protective case used on an electronic component to allow easy handling, installation, and protection. This selection was determined to be the closest industry standard applicable to the suppliers device packaging. Typically it is best to check the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than depend on this terminology when designing your circuit.
Supplier Device Package: This is what the manufacturer calls the package of this device. They are manufacturer specific. It is typically best to use the actual dimensions from the datasheets rather than to go by this terminology when designing your circuit.
