Welcome to the TechForum!
The part marking 406170-2 is the OEM part number for the diode. I am not finding the specs online to cross it another part number in our system.
I have also found : Miller DIODE - 10 A - 300 V at Linde Gas & Equipment
Hello @moores7,
Could you tell us more about the diode:
-
thread pitch
-
length of threaded portion
-
cathode or anode as base. A picture would be especially helpful especially if it shows the diode symbol - (looks like an arrow with a bar across it).
DigiKey has many related diodes, but I need you help to narrow down the search.
Awaiting your reply,
Aaron
Would you be able to list all the writing on this part? I can see the 8804 and it appears there could be more.

Hello @moores7,
I don’t see the diode’s arrow in your pictures.
Based on the part number and a search of related web pages, I’m led to believe this is an “arrow down” (cathode stud) diode. I’m also assuming 10 A rating with a 300 V reverse rating.
Staying on the safe side, I would recommend something like this Vishay part. As a rule, there is no harm using a diode with higher current and reverse ratings.
Tech Tip: The diode is often included as part of the logo. This may or may not indicate the diode’s true polarity.
Be sure to verify the physical size using the datasheet information.
Best wishes,
APDahlen
P.S. Verify the diode on the other side of your heatsink is the same type. Also, I would recommend replacing them as a pair as whatever stressed one side likely weakened the other.
P.P.S. Please let us know if this successfully repaired the welder.
