Why Does Nobody Sell Female U.FL Connectors?

Ultra miniature coaxial connectors, known by a variety of trade names such as u.FL, UMCC, IPEX, and the like, are popular for small electronics that need RF connectivity in a constrained form factor. We often get requests for just the connectors alone so customers can terminate their own cabling for custom lengths or configurations, but these connectors aren’t generally available as unterminated devices. Why is this?

These connectors aren’t sold as unterminated products because they cannot readily be properly terminated with commercially available tooling. Their size and the precision required to ensure proper coaxial termination means they require specialized tooling and training to terminate, which is prohibitively expensive and time-consuming to acquire for a one-off run. You’re usually going to be better served contacting a manufacturer who already has that capability and working with them for a custom product run, or finding the closest fit commercially available and making do if your project isn’t big enough to warrant custom product.
