3D Printer Filament Holder

A few months ago we started a conversation on how to build a multiple spool holder that would work with the 3D printers in our lab. Below you will find the first version of the a single spool holder that will mount on the top of the TAZ 6 LulzBot

It is designed to mount on the left side of the printer. As where the printer that this was printed for is situated, we wanted to be able to have this installed without interfering with the opening of the cabinet(s) that are above the printer.

The first few images show the test pieces made to check for spacing to make sure that it would mount correctly to the printer.

For Test #1-1 and Test #1-2 we ended up needing to have support material enabled to prevent the issues shown in these images

For Test #2-1, Test #2-2, and Test #2-3 are to show the results from after printing with support material.

Also, there was a change in the distances from center(front) and slight changes to the size of the rail guides. Overall however these changes were done to make it easier to install the final printed item.

The below three images show the current in-use design that we went with.
The base of the holder was printed to save on some printing time.
Also, to help save some time we printed the left and right sides laying down as well.

The below images show a filament holder that is compatible for the TAZ 6 LulzBot

Here are part numbers for the red, white, and black filament that was used for the print.
Red - 1942-1076-ND
White - 1942-1077-ND
Black - 1942-1076-ND

The below shows the times and material cost in grams. The standing up times are given to show the difference in time printing orientation. These times were also a result of using a 0.38mm printing height.
Axial – Time standing up: 4hrs, 2min
– material: 87g
Left – Time standing up(for reference): 16hrs, 57min
– Time Laying down: 11hrs, 37min
– material: 480g
Right – Time standing up(for reference): 16hrs, 56min
– Time Laying down: 11hrs, 34min
– material: 481g
