3D Printing Materials

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the 3D Printing Materials category on DigiKey.com

3D printing filaments are solid strand thermoplastic feedstock for use in fused deposition construction of three-dimensional models using 3D printers. Filaments are differentiated by diameter, weight, tensile strength, flex strength, and density with common plastic formulations including ABS, PLA, PET, PA, PC, PS, PVA and TPU. Popular diameters are 1.75 mm, 2.85 mm, and 3.00 mm and are available in a wide range of solid and translucent colors.

SelectionCharacteristics

Filament Material: Indicates the material composition of the filament.

Color: The dominant color of the filament.

Filament Diameter: Indicates the diameter (thickness) of the filament.

Weight: Indicates the overall weight of the filament.

Tensile Strength: Indicates the maximum stretching stress the material can handle before being damaged.

Flex Strength: Indicates the maximum bending stress the material can handle before being damaged.

Density: Indicates the mass per unit of volume of the filament. Typically listed as g/cm3 or kg/cm3.

Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the material.

Features: These are different capabilities or properties of the device such as ESD safe or flame retardant.
