Rectangular header type connectors are designed to connect circuits on one PCB to circuits on another providing insulation and board spacing. They are selected by pitch (distance between pin centers), stack height, and the number of positions and rows. They are typically soldered in place, with surface mount and through-hole versions available in gold, tin and tin-lead options.
SelectionCharacteristics
Number of Positions: Indicates the number of distinct conductors presented at a connector’s mating interface and the number of electrical contact points present within a connector.
Pitch: Indicates the center-to-center spacing between adjacent pins.
Number of Rows: Indicates how many rows the connector has.
Row Spacing: The nominal center distance between rows of contacts of a connector.
Length - Overall Pin: The overall length of the pin. Post through tail end to end measurement.
Length - Post (Mating): The length of the connector portion designed to mate with a complementary connector or board.
Length - Stack Height: The distance between indexing features of the part; the amount of space between boards provided by a spacer.
Length - Tail: The length of the connector portion typically used for permanent fixation to a board.
Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.
Termination: Selection of termination style used to connect the device to a system, such as solder or press-fit.
Contact Finish - Post (Mating): Indicates the surface finish present on the portion of the connector intended to allow removable/non-permanent assembly.
Contact Finish Thickness - Post (Mating): Nominal thickness of finish material on the portion of the connector indended to allow removable/non-permanent assembly.
Color: The dominant color of the device.
