Ceramic Filters

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Ceramic Filters category on DigiKey.com

Ceramic filter products provide a frequency dependent characteristic useful for suppressing or selecting signal content over some range of frequencies. Some devices use the piezoelectric properties of a ceramic material to achieve this end and are effectively electro-mechanical systems, whereas others use multi-layer construction techniques, incorporating inductive elements to create an integrated inductor-capacitor (LC) style filter.

SelectionCharacteristics

Frequency: Indicates the nominal or midpoint of a filter’s pass-band; the range of frequencies that is minimally attenuated by the filter.

Impedance: Identifies the effective resistance of the device to alternating current. It is comprised of resistance and reactance. It is measured in Ohm’s and uses the metric system for values.

Bandwidth: Refers to the span of frequencies covered by the band. For example, a device with a frequency of 10MHz and a bandwidth of 2MHz, typically signifies the band of frequencies between 9MHz and 11MHz. Carefully consult the datasheets to ensure the device you choose covers the correct band of frequencies for your application.

Insertion Loss: A measure of power losses incurred by signals passing through a device, under manufacturer-defined test conditions.

Filter Type: Indicates filter construction and broadly identifies the band of frequencies allowed to pass through the filter.

Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.

Package/Case: Indicates the type of protective case used on an electronic component to allow easy handling, installation, and protection. This selection was determined to be the closest industry standard applicable to the supplier’s device packaging. Typically it is best to check the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than depend on this terminology when designing your circuit.

Size/Dimension: The physical dimensions of the device. Typically length X width.

Height (Max): Indicates how far the device will extend above the surface to which it has been attached.
