This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Coaxial Connector (RF) Adapters category on DigiKey.com
RF coaxial adapters are used to convert from one style coaxial to another coaxial whether it is DIN Rail, Free Hanging, Panel mount, or Through Hole. Examples include AFI, APC-2.4mm, APC-N, APC-3.5mm, BNC, DIN Coax, EFI HD, Euro, F, FMC, FME, G, H.FL, HN, MCX, MHV, MMCX, MRF 1.6/5.6, N, NEX10, NIM-CAMAC CD/N 549, Nim-Camac, OS-50, OSB, OSM, OSN, OSP, OST, OSSM, PSMP, QMA, QN, RJC-N, Reverse Polarity, SC, SMA, SMB, SMC, SMP, SMPM, SVK, TNC, TRB Twinaxial/Triaxial, TRC Twinaxial/Triaxial, TRS, U.FL, UHF, W.FL2, WSMP, 1.85 mm, 2.4 mm, 2.92 mm, 3 mm, 7 mm, 1.0/2.3, 1.6/5.6, 4.1/9.5, 4.3/10, 7/16 DIN, and 7/16.
SelectionCharacteristics
Adapter Type: Indicates the forms of the connectors joined by an adapter.
Conversion Type: Indicates whether an adapter is designed to interface with connectors of the same series, such as SMA-SMA or BNC-BNC, or whether they are designed to interface with connectors of different series, such as BNC-SMA or SMA-U.FL.
Adapter Series: The connector styles/types interfaced by the device.
Center Gender: Indicates geometry of the center contact(s) of the adapter.
Convert From (Adapter End): Indicates the series and gender of the connector being converted from.
Convert To (Adapter End): Indicates the series and gender of the connector being converted to.
Impedance: Identifies the effective resistance of the device to alternating current. It is comprised of resistance and reactance. It is measured in Ohm’s and uses the metric system for values. Due to the impedance matching requirements, it’s important to use the right adapter.
Style: Indicates the shape of the adapter.
Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.
Mounting Feature: A modifying feature to how the device is being attached.
Fastening Type: The mating retention mechanism employed by the device.
Frequency - Max: This represents the maximum frequency to which a device will meet its given specifications. Exceeding this frequency may cause erratic performance, or damage the device and other system components.
Ingress Protection: IP (Ingress Protection) ratings such as (IP20, IP65, IP67, etc.) define how likely water and dirt will get into the system. The first number represents dirt and solid contaminants while the second represents water and liquids.
IP Ratings
Solids | Liquids | |
---|---|---|
1 | Protected against solids larger than 50mm. | Protected against vertically falling drops of water. Limited Ingress permitted. |
2 | Protected against solids larger than 12.5mm. | Protected against vertically falling drops of water with the enclosure tilted up to 15 degrees from vertical. Limited ingress permitted. |
3 | Protected against solids larger than 2.5mm. | Protected against spraying water up to 60 degrees from vertical. Limited ingress permitted for 3 minutes. |
4 | Protected against solids larger than 1mm. | Protected against water splashed from any direction. Limited ingress permitted. |
5 | Protected against dust. Limited ingress of dust permitted. | Will not affect operation of equipment 2-8 hours. Protected against jets of water. Limited ingress permitted. |
6 | Dust tight. No ingress of dust 2-8 hours. | Protected against powerful jets of water. Limited ingress permitted. |
7 | ______________________ | Protected against the effects of immersion in 15cm-1m for 30 minutes. |
8 | ______________________ | Continuous immersion in water up to 3m for long periods of time. |
9 | ______________________ | Protected against high pressure jets of hot water. (30 seconds) |
9K | ______________________ | Protected against high pressure jets of hot water. (2 minutes) |
Center Contact Plating: Indicates the finish/plating material applied to the center contact of the device.
Features: These are different capabilities or properties of the device such as hermetically sealed, isolated, or surge protection.
