I have a (micro) usb device that has a broken component that i cannot identify as it has no markings on it and was burried under silicone for some reason. I broke the first one by mistake and then i got a second one and damaged it while removing the silicone to identify it.
Any help would be awesome.
Thanks
Hello Patrick-F
Thank you for contacting the DigiKey TechForum.
Unfortunately, I am not able to identify this part.
I would suggest contacting the manufacturer of this device this board is out of to see if they can offer you additional information.
Looks like an inductor to me, probably a common mode choke. The reference designator “L” is generally for an inductor. Not familiar with the added “E” (the designator is “LE”), but the presence of “ESD1”, “ESD2”, etc. nearby implies that it’s an inductor to reduce ESD, which is what a common-mode choke would do.
Now, determining what specific part or value is another story. If you can identify a corresponding IC which interfaces with the USB connector, perhaps there’s a reference design associated with it on the respective datasheet which might give you some possible options.
Here’s a link to the general category, filtered down a bit, but with tons still there. If you can measure its dimensions, that will narrow it down a lot, but you still have the problem of figuring out the value. That’s where the USB IC datasheet might help.
