Good day. I am hoping someone can assist. I have a blown diode on a circuit board ( Chevrolet Spark engine control module). The diode marking is ‘ED 05’. I think it’s a Vishay diode. My question is, does the numbering after ‘ED’ matter? If not, I have an ED 54A that I could use instead. Or any suggestions as to what I could use as a replacement for the ED 05 if the ED 54A is not suitable?
Thanks and regards,
Melissa
Hello,
Welcome to the TechForum, Yes the numbering matters if you are looking at a part only a part with the same marking should be used. The part marking does not call out the technical specifications, without the technical specifications I cannot give a possible cross.
Hi Melissa,
The numbers after “ED” indicate specific diode characteristics. ED 54A may not replace ED 05 unless specs (voltage, current ratings) match. Check datasheets or consult an expert to ensure compatibility.
Good luck!
@steverogers56 This is likely not the case, and more likely the numbers after ED indicate date/lot code information for quality/traceability uses.
To the original poster, if you have a package size that is around 4.25mm x 2.65mm and a marking you believe is Vishay then there is a chance you have:
