Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor Storage Conditions and Shelf Life

thermometer

1. Recommended storage conditions

We recommend storing packaged in a location with a room temperature of 5° to 35°C, and a relative humidity of 75% or lower. While it depends on the product, storage limits are 2 to 3 years. Particularly high-temperature conditions can cause the accelerated decline in the performance of electrolytic aluminum capacitors, including decreased capacitance, increased equivalent series resistance, and the accelerated progression of the increase in leakage current. Also, high-humidity environments can result in a decline in solderability due to factors such as lead line oxidation.

2. Avoid storage in the following types of environments. Can cause material deterioration in a short time, which can result in the inability to achieve electrical and mechanical performance from the aluminum electrolytic capacitor.

  • Environments resulting in water adhesion, high temperatures, high humidity, and condensation.
  • Environments resulting in oil adhesion or environments filled with oil components in a gaseous state.
  • Environments resulting in salt water adhesion or environments filled with salt.
  • Environments filled with acidic toxic gases (hydrogen sulfide, sulfurous acid, nitrous acid, chlorine, bromine, methyl bromide, etc.).
  • Environments filled with ammonia or other alkaline toxic gases.
  • Environments exposed to acids or alkaline solvents.
  • Environments exposed to direct sunlight, ozone, UV light, or radiation.
  • Conditions related to vibration and shock.

3. Refer to the following table on storage limits

Product Category Type Before the bag is opened After the bag is opened
Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors All types Within 3 years after manufacturing Within 3 years after manufacturing
Conductive Polymer Hybrid Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors All types Within 2 years after manufacturing Within 2 years after manufacturing
Conductive Polymer Aluminum Solid Capacitors SMD (Chip type) Within 3 years after manufacturing Within 6 months after the bag is opened
Conductive Polymer Aluminum Solid Capacitors Radial Within 3 years after manufacturing Within 3 years after manufacturing
Conductive Polymer Aluminum Solid Capacitors SMD (Resin-Molded chip type) Within 2 years after manufacturing Within 7 days after the bag is opened
