A gateway is a node (router) in a computer network, a key stopping point for data on its way to and from other networks and often acts as a proxy server and a firewall. Gateways regulate traffic between two dissimilar networks, while routers regulate traffic between similar networks. These devices are selected by specific function, modulation or protocol, operational frequency, data rate, power output and interface.
SelectionCharacteristics
Function: The primary task or capability of the device.
Modulation or Protocol: Indicates the communication standard(s) or RF modulation techniques supported or employed by a device.
Frequency: Indicates the frequency or range of frequencies used for transmitting and receiving data.
Applications: Application is the type of equipment or environment the device was designed for use in.
Interface: The communication protocol or physical connection method used by the device to interact with other devices or systems on a network.
Sensitivity: The ability to detect or receive weak or low-power signals. The higher the value the stronger the signal.
Power - Output: A device’s maximum rated output power in dB relative to 1 milliwatt or watts.
Data Rate (Max): Characterizes the maximum rate at which information can be transmitted or received by a device. Does not necessarily refer to throughput rate for user data, see device datasheets for further information.
Features: These are different capabilities or properties of the device such as data extraction, IoT gateway, or real-time ethernet.
