Hi, trying to use this connector with 28 awg wire, it won’t fit, do they make a 28 awg version of this, or can anyone recommend a 28 awg connector I can use
Hello dmolloy,
The connector in question Part Number M50-3301342 is for use with 30AWG wire. For using larger cable like 28AWG larger size pitch would be required such as 2mm instead of 1.27mm Examples:
Free Hanging, Panel Mount | Rectangular Connectors | Electronic Components Distributor DigiKey
To add to @Troy_2808’s response, it does not look like anyone we carry makes a 1.27mm pitch IDC type rectangular socket connector which uses 28 AWG ribbon cable.
Just to make sure you’re looking for the right sized connector, are you really looking for a 1.27mm pitch connector? Such a connector requires a ribbon cable with a 0.64mm pitch, not a 1.27mm pitch, and we do not carry a single ribbon cable with 0.64mm pitch in 28 AWG – they are all 30 AWG.
If you actually have a 1.27mm pitch cable, then you would need a connector with a 2.54mm (0.1”) pitch to properly fit, and those commonly could take 28 AWG ribbon cable. Here’s a link to those 2.54mm pitch IDC connectors.
Hi
It’s 28 awg mil spec wire we are using,
M22759/11-30-0
M22759/11-30-2
M22759/11-30-9
M22759/11-30-5
Originally customer wanted 30awg, we couldn’t get any 30 awg milspec wire. We bought the 28 awg instead, but the 30awg connecter won’t fit ie Harwin p/n M50-3301342, we need to fit a 28awg equivalent.
Hello,
We don’t have any equivalent connectors to M50-3301342 that use 28awg and the wires you listed are single conductor hook-up wire, not ribbon cable. Can you use a connector with a larger pitch like one of these that can use 28awg ?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the “-30” portion of the cable part number specifically mean 30 AWG wire size?
Regardless, as @Steve_Fellman mentioned, it does seem that M22759/11 also implies a single conductor rather than a ribbon cable. The Harwin M50-3301342 is intended for ribbon cable rather than single conductors, though very careful alignment before IDC compression may be possible, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
So something seems funny here.
- What is the specification or set of requirements for your cable-connector assembly?
- Does it specify using the M50-3301342 connector, specifically, or does it specify just using 26 conductor connector with 28AWG M22759/11 wires?
- What connector is this cable assembly supposed to mate with? Obviously those connectors must be mate-able.
