Moisture Sensors are designed to detect and respond to the presence or a change in the amount of humidity along with Pressure, Temperature, and Light. The output types are Analog Voltage, Capacitance, Digital, Frequency, I2C, LCD Display, LCD, PDM, PWM, Resistive, SDM, SPI, ZACwire, and ZigBee with accuracy ranging from ±1.5% RH to ±7% RH.
Specifications to determine which humidity or moisture sensor is right for your application.
Sensor Type: Designates which parameters can be measured by the sensor, such as humidity, moisture, temperature, etc.
Humidity Range: The operating humidity range specified for the part. May differ from the humidity range over which the indicated accuracy applies.
Output Type: Indicates the type of electrical signal the device provides, such as digital, analog, etc.
Output: The specific output or range of outputs the sensor outputs, such as 0-10V, 4mA-20mA, 5V@100%RH, etc.
Accuracy: Typically listed as +/- a percentage of relative humidity (RH), this is the amount of deviation that may occur from a perfect reading of the sensor. For example if the accuracy is +/-2%RH the reading given by the sensor may be higher or lower than the relative humidity by 2%.
Response Time: How quickly the sensor can read changes in the moisture or humidity level. If the level of moisture or humidity changes faster than the response time some values will be missed or incorrect. It is important to select a sensor that can detect changes faster than they occur in order to get the most accurate results from the sensor.
Sensitivity: The amount of change in the output per unit of input. For example if the sensitivity is 25mV/%RH the output will change by 25mV for every 1%RH of change in the input.
Voltage - Supply: Typically represented by a range, this indicates the low and high voltage limits which one can expect standard operation. Voltages outside this range may damage the device and other system components.
Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.
Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and other system components.
Package/Case: Indicates the type of protective case used on an electronic component to allow easy handling, installation, and protection. This selection was determined to be the closest industry standard applicable to the suppliers device packaging. Typically it is best to check the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than depend on this terminology when designing your circuit.
Supplier Device Package: This is what the manufacturer calls the package of this device. They are manufacturer specific. It is typically best to use the actual dimensions from the datasheets rather than to go by this terminology when designing your circuit.
