Looking at making some custom IDE cables and already have 80 way flat cable. But really struggling to find connectors that are correct. Need 40 way (2x20) rectangle connectors. But need to accept the 80 way cable at a 0.64 pitch.
I would not be surprised if every major connector maker stopped producing the connector with the 40 extra grounds for crosstalk reduction soon after the last PATA HDD production line closed a decade ago.
AFAICT, they are mostly bought by people reviving old PCs and game systems (e.g. X-box) for retro-gaming/hobbies plus a few for maintaining obsolete but difficult to replace industrial systems.
