Modular connectors are a series of standardized interconnect products commonly used in wired information and telecommunications networks. Those in this family are receptacles which do not incorporate any magnetic components such as transformers, which are necessary for applications such as Ethernet communications. Plugs and receptacles/jacks which do integrate commonly needed magnetic components are catalogued separately.
SelectionCharacteristics
Number of Positions/Contacts: Indicates connector body size via the number of contact positions available, and the number of said positions that are populated with electrical contacts.
Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.
Orientation: The relative direction of the port(s) to the rest of the connector body.
Termination: Selection of termination style used to connect the device to a system, such as press-fit or solder.
Shielding: Whether or not the device possesses an electrically insulating barrier that helps to reduce or eliminate electromagnetic interference, and its type if applicable.
Ratings: Minimum performance standards of the device, which are typically set by a third party.
Features: These are different capabilities or properties of the device such as a boardlock.
LED Color: Describes the color(s) of the indicator LED(s) incorporated in a jack.
Tab Direction: Indicates orientation(s) of a mating plug’s retention tab, when a jack is mounted to the top surface of a horzontal plane.
Contact Material: Indicates the material composition of the contacts.
Contact Finish: Indicates the finish/plating material applied to the contacts.
