Optical Sensors - Ambient Light, IR, UV Sensors

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Sensors, Transducers - Optical Sensors - Ambient Light, IR, UV Sensors category on DigiKey.com

Ambient light, IR and Ultraviolet optical sensors convert their respective light and/or heat inputs into an analog or digital output and are available in a wide variety of surface mount and through hole package types. The wavelength for these sensors range from 290nm to 4000K.

SelectionCharacteristics

Specifications to determine which optical light sensor is right for your application.

Type: Specifies the type of light detectable by the sensor.

Wavelength: Typically the center wavelength or wavelengths of the spectrum of detectable light…

Proximity Detection: Indicates if a device is capable of being used for non-contact object detection.

Output Type: The type of electrical signal output by the device, such as analog, digital, logic, voltage, etc.

Voltage - Supply: Typically given in a range it represents the low and high voltage limits - within this range a device will meet its given specifications. Voltages outside this range may damage device and/or other system components.

Operating Temperature: Recommended operating temperature, typically given in a range or as a maximum. Exceeding these temperatures may affect performance or damage the device and/or other system components.

Mounting Type: How the device is attached.

Package/Case: The protective case on an electronic component which allows for easy handling, installation, and protects the device. This is what we determined is the closest industry standard to the supplier device package. Typically, it is best to use the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than to go by this terminology when designing your circuit.

Supplier Device Package: This is what the manufacturer calls the package of this device. They are manufacturer specific. It is typically best to use the actual dimensions from the datasheets rather than to go by this terminology when designing your circuit.
