Optical Sensors - Reflective - Logic Output

This Product Selection Guide contains information to help select products in the Optical Sensors - Reflective - Logic Output category on DigiKey.com

Products in the Logic Output Reflective Optical Sensor family incorporate an optical emitter and light sensitive element (typically a phototransistor) mounted adjacent to each other and facing the same direction, such that light from the emitter that is reflected by an object in the sensor’s field of view can be detected by the sensing element within the device. Logic output sensors of this type produce a binary (two-state) signal on the basis of whether or not the optical signal received by the photosensor exceeds some specified threshold value.

SelectionCharacteristics

Specifications to determine which reflective optical sensor with logic output is right for your application.

Sensing Distance: Indicates the distance within which the sensor can receive an input and produce a valid output.

Sensing Method: Indicates the manner in which a sensor interacts with a sensed object or surface.

Sensing Object: Enumerates test objects referenced in datasheet and/or type of object expected to be detected in an end application.

Output Configuration: Indicates how the output of the sensor is electrically configured, such as current, open collector, voltage, etc.

Sensing Light: Indicates the type of light used to sense objects within the sensing range.

Mounting Type: Indicates how the device is attached.

Current - Supply: The typical amount of current used by the sensor. See datasheet for specific information.

Voltage - Supply: Typically represented by a range, this indicates the low and high voltage limits which one can expect standard operation. Voltages outside this range may damage the device and other system components.

Package/Case: Indicates the type of protective case used on an electronic component to allow easy handling, installation, and protection. This selection was determined to be the closest industry standard applicable to the suppliers device packaging. Typically it is best to check the actual dimensions from the datasheet rather than depend on this terminology when designing your circuit.
